Paintball Keep Your Mask On….

Probable one of the best memories I have of childhood is the neighborhood battles that occurred almost daily between me and my neighbor friends throughout the neighborhood. We were armed with snowballs in winter and rubber band guns in summer. The battles raged on regardless of weather or other activities. We all had a blast and rarely were tempers involved and as I recall we all had fun.

Later in the Army the games became somewhat more serious and the repercussions more serious but during training exercises using laser targeted weapons we still had that thrill of the neighborhood battles. Whether snowball fights as a child or laser tag as an adult the thrill of simulated combat is a adrenaline rush that is rarely matched by any other activities. Now I know this is a sad but true aspect of human personality but it is none the less a fact, be it male or female. Paintball fits right into this spectrum of activity.

When I played my first paintball game I was a real newby. The players took  advantage of my ineptitude and I took a lot of shots that hurt a bit but really wasn't to bad. The adrenaline rush was really intense. Despite the few lumps and bumps and plenty of paint the game was a real joy. We ran around a large area of  woods with attacks and counter attacks. for the better part of the day and all had a blast. Best of all I had the opportunity to enjoy this activity with my son. Turned out to be a real bonding experience for both of us.

Over the years my son and I have returned often to the fray and battled throughout many an afternoon. He of course has become very proficient at the sport while I remain basically a target. He now plays in tournaments frequently and I go to watch. Given all this I have found the sport to be safe and enjoyable way to spend the afternoon with my son and really enjoy the day. The game still triggers that tremendous adrenaline rush that i felt as a child chasing around the neighborhood.

So get a gun and a good mask and head out out to a paintball field this weekend and give this sport a try. i guarantee you will get a rare thrill and some real excitement rarely duplicated in our normal life. and if you happen to have a son or daughter who would enjoy this activity take them along. This is a great bonding experience for both of you. Enjoy....

What type of paintball gun should I get?

I want to purchase a new paintball gun and I am not sure on which kind to buy. Any suggestions and please put the reasons why.

Tippman A5, customizable enough to tear it up, with he right paintball shop they can get you up to around 21 bps safely. Cyclone feeder is amazing, very easy to strip and clean, very good price now that the X7 is out.
I would say avoid the X7, its made of a lighter metal, but its really for looks. The A5 preforms just as well and is about 100 cheaper

How much does it cost to refill a nitro paintball tank?

I'm thinking about buying a paintball gun online that comes with a PMI/Spyder 48ci Nitro Tank. The gun is a spyder vs2. But, I heard that to get it refilled usually costs more than refilling a co2 tank. How much more does it cost and is the price difference worth it?

Filling an HPA/N2 tank for paintball is about the same price or less than CO2 tanks. Problem is that it's harder to find places to fill N2/HPA tanks. Try local scuba shops and I know most paintball fields fill air.

Where To Play Paintball?

There are various types of paintball fields that offer a challenge and excitement to players. Paintball fields add to the overall enjoyment of the sport.

Woods

“Woodsball” as it is referred to by a lot of paintball players is the “purest” type of setting where paintball is played.  On this type of field, players get the feel of the real war game.

Basically, the field is a secluded area in the woods which has an open area.  Players “hare”, learn stealth or how to advance the field in a very sneaky manner.

Concept Fields

The concept field is often created outdoors, with many objects that have been set up for players to take refuge in or seek protection from.  Usually concept fields have a theme, the most common of which is the urban city setting with cars, buildings and many other city elements.

There are some fields that are very creative with their themes, such as medieval themes with castles which have towers, wagons and cutouts of people.  Concept fields are interesting and fun: players are able to adjust the skill level of the group by removing or adding obstacles.

Speedball Fields

According to paintball fanatics the most exciting and challenging of all fields are the speedball fields. They are made up of equally spaced and equally sized barriers.

The challenge here is that a player can not see past the huge barriers and can bump into or encounter anyone at any time.  With the smaller barriers a player can be concealed one way, yet revealed to another player.

Indoor Fields

These fields offer a much different approach and encounter from an outdoor field. The first and major thing that new players encounter is that here paintball guns are very loud: some find that the sound hurts their ears so they wear earplugs; but this is not necessary most of the time.

Indoor fields are generally found in cities where there is a lack of open areas to play the game. Similar to outdoor fields, indoor arenas also offer a variety of themes and set ups. The range is considered to be the major difference.

A team with great team effort is the key to the game of paintball regardless of where you play - the basic paintball idea remains the same. The option is up to you:  select a field that fits your interests and your performance level the best.  Paintball fields are as diverse as one’s imagination.
